it should fall under the 3yr/36k warranty. i bought mine used and when i pointed out a small tear they volunteered to replace it under warranty. if they give you any crap, go to a different dealer or contact honda customer service.

i have read posts from board members who have had tops replaced out of warranty at no charge or a partial compensation.

Hey guys, I noticed a tear in my top the other day too. First thought it was a break in attempt, but I realized that its just from wear. Its only an 04' and I find it really hard to believe that its wearing out. Does anyone think its covered under warranty? I've only got 21000 miles on her.

Heres a pic:

I have never seen ine rip there before. Luckly for you it should be covered under warranty.

I called honda, they sent out the regional service guy, he looked at it for a second, and worked me. Said it could have happened from something scratching it on the outside, like a rock, and since I didn't have the extended warranty, and don't service my car at a honda dealer (thus making me a bad customer) that they would give me a 20% discount on the repair and replacement.

It's on a 03, and I had, 38k miles on it.

The tear in the top is over a spot where the inside frame rubs when the top is put up.

I've resigned to the fact that Honda isn't going to step in and do anything. I've found a replacement top for about $835 shipped (it's canvas which I prefer).

I've read about it being a PITA to replace yourself and found people around that will do it for nearly $400, bringing the total to about half what Honda charges for a factory replacement.

I've heard rumored that this is the last model year that they will be producing. At any rate, I love having a car that rev's to 9k so I'll fix it and keep it for years to come. In the mean time, I found it helpful to get some iron on color matching stuff at a local store, and used that.

My car was just broken into recently, I bought the top off Ebay, and had Ultimate Auto Seal install it. His name is Anthony and the phone # is 407-694-5829, I work for a car dealership and he has been doing my work for 8 years now.

So why do our tops TEAR?

Can this be prevented with a routine Top CleaningConditioning with an approved Soft top cleaner/conditioner?

Personally...I don't believe so (although there may be other opinions). Our top is vinyl...not much you can do. Canvas can be cared for to help make it last longer.

I think many of the tears our cars experience are due to lowering and raising the top in colder weather...even here in Florida.

I also think that leaving the top down for days at a time and then raising when the top has not been warmed by the sun can cause tears.

I got mine replaced under warranty (w/1 day to spare). Dealer paid for it all. Only bad part is the new one isn't under any warranty. The hole in mine wasn't as bad as the one you've got looks, but you could see light through it and it was noticable inside and out.

Good luck!
