bottom of diff is wet w/ diff fluid. not dripping tho. seal seems fine.
seems like these 2 bolts on bottom going from the black into the silver might be leaking due to stress or loose or idk. i didnt try and tq or anything them because i didnt wanna break anything.. the drain/fill bolts are fine no leaks there seems like coming from those bolts or around there and then spreading..
it was wet to touch and dirty but no drips on ground where parking.
diff fluid changed @ 30k @ holler honda prior to purchase.. im at 40k now.
go in for diff fluid change? and then they will look at it and check bolts
not worry about it
what fluid to make sure they use when i go.
last time they put 5w20 oil in her at 39k change.. frien said not to worry since i change every 3k
so while im there i could have em change that too idk
just confused and i know nothing about fluids except the fact the shouldnt prolly be on the outside of the diff
riley
anyone local who could look/maybe swap w/o going to honda?

A few things to check. On the top of the diff there is a vent. It looks like a little plastic cap on the aluminum side of the housing. See if there is any residue coming out from there. The other thing to check is the level of fluid and if there is a crush washer on the fill plug. See if that is present. Too much fluid and it will blow out the vent.
Sometime excess fluid from the filling of the diff spills and if the tech did not clean it up properly, you will see reside. Unless they pulled the back cover and broke the seal, the diff should not leak just from a diff change.
Also 5W-30 at the dealership????????????? I would question them on that. Honda specs 10W-30 for engine oil. We have seen a bunch of bearing failure lately and I believe 5W-30 is to light weight for the S2K that runs .002-.003 of clearance between the journals. I also spoke with an insurance adjuster that specializes in warranty work and he mentioned that the warranty companies will not pay out if improper oil weight is being used. So the S2K says 10W-30, us it, especially in our climate and change it @ every 3K miles. Oil is cheap, and engine rebuild is not!

I would question them on that and maybe get them to sign off on something that says they are liable for damages that may occur for going 5W-20. They know what oil should be used and if they come off Honda's specifications, I feel they should be held liable. I know this oil thing is really getting to me because we see so many bearing failures due to lack of or some type of oil related issues.
Keep a tight lock on this with Honda and get their seal of approval on the 5W-20 just so you can have leverage IF something should go wrong.
Good luck - let us know what they say.
