Who actually removes spare tire....
I tried to help a woman on I4 with a flat tire yesterday on the way back to Jacksonville. It was a Sebring w/aftermarket chrome wheels. She had a RR blowout and the other rear was camber worn and about to blow also. I stopped and asked if I could help her and she said "I have a flat tire". I said ok I'll put your spare on for you. I advised her about the process that this involves (rotating the tires) and her response was "I don't have a spare.....I've called a towtruck". Now maybe she was scared of a person pulling over to help her, but I was in work clothing. If you don't know me I'm a Store Manager for Discount Tire Co., so hopefully she wouldn't think that. Why would you remove your spare if you didn't have to?

I removed it:
1) To make room for stereo equipment
2) b/c I'd never mount the donut spare anways
a) the whole front/rear rotation thing
b) have you ever driven the S on mismatched wheels? It's freakin' scary even at low speeds.

how much is AAA anyway. Changing your spare on the highway with cars going by at 75mph is not cool anymore. Besides, if your rear is flat then you'd have to use the front for a temporary rear and spare for the front, its just too much work!!!

Plus even if you have the spare, if you have a sub-box in your trunk, you have nowhere to put your flat tire once you've swapped it out.
And AAA is only about $40/year if I remember correctly.

makes better use of trunk space (can fit 2 sets of golf clubs that way too).
I have AAAplus also and a good friend who owns a towing service. My car is lowered which makes changing tires even harder (not even sure if the OE jack will fit under it now.)
It definitely takes longer to wait for a tow truck than changing the tire ... but, usually there are so many other risks and issues when trying to change the tire it just doesn't make sense for me.
