Seems like this is the next popular thing to do. I think the one with 3 cut outs looks a bit better.

Sooooo glad we did this. Just drove the car hard for about 30 minutes. While letting it run through a fan cycle in the garage before shutting down, held my hand over the rear vent. The air coming out was almost hot enough to burn my hand Just think, all that heat was trapped under the hood before.

how are the edges finished? Did you put some kind of sealer on it, or is bare aluminum?

I really like this solution. When it rains, will any engine internals get soaked that shouldn't be wet?

We didn't apply anything to the edges once they were sanded smooth. Our cars are silver so bare aluminum looks fine. I did apply black Sharpie to the edges under the grill so they didn't show through. On any other color you'd want to do something for asthetics I'd think.

As far as rain, yep you'll get some water under the hood. Of course you get water under the hood anyways w/o the cut outs (just not as much). I'm not real worried about it b/c a) i don't drive the car in the rain too often b) contrary to popular opinion, neither your engine nor your battery are gonna melt if they get a little water on them

I do have a couple ideas for a rain shield, but as i said i'm not really worried about it, so i don't think i'll be pursueing them.

Looks Great!! I noticed the fuse holder on top of your battery. Are you worried about the rain?
