Default St Augustine Autocross 28 Jan

As promised, here is the information for the Buccaneer Region of the SCCA's first autocross event of the 2006 season. It will be held at the First Coast Technical Institute in St Augustine on Saturday, January 28. This will not be a typical autocross in that it takes place on an actual 'track' that they use to train ambulance/fire truck/police drivers. It's a very tight track however, and the course designers use cones as needed to keep the speeds down to the normal autocross level (say 60 mph tops). It's also atypical in that there IS a slightly higher risk of damage to your car if you lose control. The track runs through what is best described as a swamp...if you go off the pavement you're in the marshy grass and there might be a few inches of water. It hasn't rained much lately so it shouldn't be very deep. Don't let me talk you out of this though! Unless you drive like a idiot you will be fine.

If you've never driven your S2000 at a autocross (or track event), you've never driven your S2000!

Here are some photos of me and my RSX driving friend from a previous St Aug event:

Directions to the event:
Take I-95 S toward St. Augustine
Take the SR-16 E exit- exit number 318- toward Technical Institute/St. Augustine/Flagler College. Go approximately 3-4 miles and Turn Left onto Woodlawn Road. Follow Woodlawn Road for approximately one mile and Turn left onto Gaines Road. Follow Gaines Road until it dead ends into the track.

Event schedule
Course Set Up: - 7:00 am
Registration: 8:00 am to 9:15 am
Tech Inspection: 8:00 am to 9:30 am
Driver's Meeting: 9:30 am
First Car Off: 9:45 am

I'll be there...any other Jax people want to meet up and caravan down we can plan something!

Im going for sure. I noticed in your pic you were wearing a helmet. I was wondering if I am going to have to wear one when i ride with you. If so, I need to try and locate one. Just let me know and we can figure out a place to meet that morning so I can follow you or I could just meet you at the track. I should be able to find it from your directions. You know your gonna come James, quit fooling yourself

They have loaner helmets you can borrow. You're coming from OP right? Want to meet somewhere near the 295/95 interchange?

That could work. Off of 95 just south of the interchange is the St Augustine rd exit. There is a somewhat new Publix shopping center if you get off there . Let me know if you know where I'm talking about. Same exit as the new hospital.

Isn't St Augustine road off 295, not 95? Either way I'm sure I can find the Publix. I think we should meet there at 7:30.

It should be $25 for non-SCCA members and $20 for members. It would be great if you could attend.

I plan on going down to St. Augustine, but we drive pretty slow, so
will probably not meet up for the caravan. Wave as you pass us.

Any good pizza places down that way for a possible feast after the
event? It will be great not having to rush home after the event, like
we need to on a Sunday.

St Augustine rd is off of both 295 and 95. The new publix is just off of 95. If you were traveling south on 95 you would pass 295 and St Augustine Rd would be just past it. I dont want to end up at the wrong place so if you have somewhere that you know then we can meet there. 7:30 sounds good to me.
