Spods?

I like them and the way they sound. Mine are set up as surround or effect speakers
from my JL amp
I modified the aluminum mounting plate. I made a new one using 1/8 aluminum and used sound deadening material inside the roll hoop cabinet.

So is there going to be a difference in sound between the two? Which one would you guys recommend?

depending on the type of sound you are looking for, a proper stereo audio setup is suppose to give you the impression that the music/singer is coming from in front of you as up on stage at a concert - "the term front stage"
I would sound deaden to doors, use a good seperates in the door, powered with 100-150 channel, and add a tweeter to the A pilar bouncing sound off the windsheild.
for low freq fill i would do a 10" sub in the passenge foot well or a 10/12 in the trunk with 300-500 watts
work to the doors with a amp on them would improved the sound quality to this car.
Puddy - i am a exile dealer..... wait until you see my box for the new exile slim 10 in the passenger foot well

I have a JVC sub box under the driver seat that works ok for it's size. Chip had one first and I thought it was pretty cool so I got one too

Personally, the rear stage of ANY sound system is for fill only. When things are recorded, the forward stage is what carries the sound. The rear stage just makes it sound "full".
Some people argue that the speaker is sooo close to your head, that it will sound weird. This is correct, if you cannot tune your system. I have my rear channels delayed a few milliseconds within my head unit, to allow the front stage to travel. If you do not have the timing delay option, the fader works pretty well.... Faded forward +7 to +9, the front stage sounds more robust at lower voumes, and the rear just "fills."
Nothing beats the SPods for top-down cruising, though. Just fade it back to even, and its RIGHT there. I like the looks too...
I have never been a fan of the lucid style panels, as they are blasting into the back of the seat. You can deal with speaker proximity, but not muffling b/c of objects in the way of the sound wave.

The issues I see with mids / highs behind the seats are that mids and highs are directional sound. This is why when you are in your house, you hear bass from music outside and nit the rest of it. lows on the other end (bass) is no directional. This is all due to the wavelengths of the frequencies I believe. (been a long time since I learned all this stuff). I might try to make / improve on the Spods idea. It looks pretty good, but I think I could do better for cheaper.
