As a mattrer of fact the anti-virals that are available are top notch and if given in time are effective. The 1918 flue resulted in a loss of over 50 million people, worldwide. Worst case estimate for this pandemic is 5 million and that is with a much larger population.

My point is that the antibiotics are only increasing the overall strength of the bacteria as a species. Generation by generation the bacteria that survives the antibiotics will remain resistant.
But to clarify: Influenza is caused by a virus, antibiotics have NO effect on viral diseases. (only secondary bacterial infections that may occur.)
