The antibiotics they are distributing right now are top level, and they aren't working. We've created super bugs with our medicine.
Antibiotics have nothing to do with influenza other than fighting secondary infections.......sorry but 30 years as a microbiologist coming out. As a mattrer of fact the anti-virals that are available are top notch and if given in time are effective. The 1918 flue resulted in a loss of over 50 million people, worldwide. Worst case estimate for this pandemic is 5 million and that is with a much larger population.

My point is that the antibiotics are only increasing the overall strength of the bacteria as a species. Generation by generation the bacteria that survives the antibiotics will remain resistant.

Don't get me started on the overuse of antibiotics. My major peeve with doctors in general. Plus the indiscriminate use in farming probably has done more to increase the overall bacterial resistance in general.

But to clarify: Influenza is caused by a virus, antibiotics have NO effect on viral diseases. (only secondary bacterial infections that may occur.)
