Just my $.02.
I had an HTC8125 and an 8500 before I upgraded to the 3G iPhone a few months back. Night-and-Day difference! Toward the end, I had to reboot the HTC once a day because it would freeze up while surfing the internet/emailing. It also constantly updated the email, as they came in... The iPhone only updates it when you activate the email app.
It took a little while to get used to, but not having to use a stylus is also really nice. The text/type function took a little while to get used to, as I was used to the full keyboard (dedicated pad makes typing more accurate, but iPhone's type logic is pretty good).
Major drawback is that the battery is NOT REPLACEABLE in the iPhone. You have to send the entire phone back if the power source fails.
