Im not sure if any of you are in the military, but I am currently a MP stationed out of Tampa. An individual can even back out and have no responsibilities to the government as long as the decision is made before the individual graduates from basic training and is deemed a soldier. The reason you dont see this occur often is due to procedures in place to try to scare the individuals. Is there anyone else that can verify this information?

I'm in the navy and at least two others that posted are or were in the armed forces. It does make sense that they would try to use scare tactics to keep you in. I never wanted out and so I never really thought about it.

Ok, here's what my buddy told me. As long as he hasn't said the oath that is said the day before he's supposed to fly out for basic then he can change his mind. Is he already in the Delayed Enlistment Program? If so then what he needs to do is just jump online and do a search for "DEP discharge". He'll have to fill out the letter with his info then take it to the recruiter. Be warned, the recruiter will most likely fight tooth and nail to get him to stay, but just tell him to be insistant, and don't take no for an anwser.
Edit---I just did a quick search and it looks like this is the DEP discharge letter he needs.
