If you have signed up, but haven't gone through boot camp, can you stop the process and not go?

paperwork is done, but no oath yet. My cousin just found out he can pay for college himself, and that's the main reason he signed up.

The question is, has the person swore an oath of enlistment?

If I can remember correctly, he can choose not to go further. He has to ask the recruiter, and make sure he is shown regulations where he is at in the MEPS procces.

When is he scheduled to go in?

The "official" oath isn't taken until the last day before you fly out for bootcamp from the local MEPS station. I've always heard that you can back out if you do it before then.. However, it's just a rumor until someone proves it! I believe it to be true though.

JC_S2000 might be able to answer your question more accurately

I wouldn't ask "his" recruiter! That recruiter would lie through his teeth to meet his monthly quota.

They don't have you until you ship out.

They can't force you to go to boot camp, when he gets on that plane though, its over!

Good for him to pursue school, make sure he follows through.

They can't force you to go to boot camp. You can back out anytime before you swear the oath just before you leave for boot camp.
