Here is how I introduce anyone to sushi:
Maki (rolls) come in a myriad of styles and recipies. Many of which contain items that are fully cooked. When eating sushi for the first time I suggest to people that they stick with these cooked rolls (Mexican rolls are fully cooked, Tampa rolls, even spider rolls for the adventurous are fully cooked) The names may vary for each region but if you look at the menu, you can select rolls that do not necessarily have to be raw.
Now, that being said, some of THE BEST tasting maki include both cooked and uncooked ingredients and/or are finished in the toaster oven which heat up the roll and sear the outside.
After you try one or two of those type, and you like it, then I get you to try various low key raw items. No unagi, octopus, quail eggs or salmon roe for you I promise.
sashimi (raw items w/no rice) is always good to me but the most enjoyable sushi for most people is always the maki.
Nadia, if I ever get you to a sushi bar and if you TRUST me. I would turn you into a sushi lover in no time.
