Default i need a spare key made

alright i got an alarm/remote start and i need an extra key for the alarm. our car needs a microchip thats is in the key to start. therefor you have to put one of your keys under the dash for the remote start to work. i went to honda to get a key cut and they told me it would be 140.00 for an extra key. the service writer told me that they charge one labor hour for programming a key. this sounds pretty bogus to me. i used to work for a bmw dealership and thats how much they charged for their keys that had the lock/unlock/trunk release built into them. any ideas on a cheaper way to get an extra key? if i have to i will just use my second key for the car, but then if i lose the main key i will be screwed.

is it possible for ACURA equipment to cut and program our keys? i know some acura techs back in chicago but wont be home again until this summer. the problem with honda is that they want to charge me one labor hour which is crazy. do i need all of the keys present for programming in case i want to get a copy made at a later point?

I only got one key with my car when I bought it, so I went to Wal-Mart to have a copy made. Obviously, it didn't work..so I went down to my local Honda dealership to find out about getting a second key made. Luckily I know someone who works in the service department, so I was only charged for the parts and not the labor.

Anyway, onto the point. What the tech did was first, reprogram the car so that no keys would work with it. Then he took my existing key and the new key I had cut there and programmed it so they would work. I have a little piece of mind now knowing that my car's previous owner steal my car with his old key.

if you have 2 keys already PM me... i'm a car audio installer in ohio , but go to the dealer get a key cut... (should be 35 bux) and don't have it programed... i'll send you directions on how to program it... takes 5 minutes if that.... if you only have 1 key then you'll have to go to the dealer so they can program your ECU with that code
