If I head out to an event, I may ask someone just so I can get a few lap times in. I don't want to spring the $500 for one...

It can get REALLY hot out there ... and there are not many shaded areas to seek shelter under. Most of the trees are small and cut back. I would highly suggest a small tent or canopy and a cooler
Oh ... and sunscreen

My best lap ever there clockwise was a 1:00.2 but that was using the full length of the South leg. I was on fresh Star Spec's also.
It's a fun little course, but the car feels pretty weak in the summer heat there.

Our events in a nutshell:
A monthly, low-cost, easy-going track event at the Gainesville Raceway’s test track.
Cost is $100 to $125 per car. Additional drivers are currently free.
Any DOT or Snell helmet will work.
Very safe track with nearly nothing to hit. Speeds range from 20 to 100 mph.
Roll bars are not required for convertibles, but are highly recommended.
Starts at 9am and ends at 5pm. Show up and leave whenever you’d like. If you arrive late and miss the 9am driver’s meeting, make sure you’ve read the rules.
No run groups (unless it gets busy and we need them), just first-come-first-serve lapping.
No prior track experience needed.
No passengers of any kind, sorry. Not even instructors.
Restricted passing
Five cars on track at a time.
