ATTN: Ft. Lauderdale area owners
Hi, I may be relocating to the Ft. Lauderdale area in a few months depending on a job opportunity. I was wondering how you guys would rate the cost of living and how much you would say the average rent is on a decent 1 or 2 bedroom apartment in the surrounding area. I am not looking for anything extravagant, but a good neighborhood is a must as I don't want to park my S in the combat zone. Thanks in advance.

I'm in Plantation, in between Ft. Lauderdale and Weston. I just bought a place, but had been renting a 2 bedroom with lake view for $1180/month.
Best thing down here....the weather is perfect for convertibles year-round

Expect to pay about $1,200 for a nice rental in the West Broward area (Weston, Pembroke Pines, etc). I recommend Weston, as its a very nice suburb with several nice rental communities. Its an upscale area and very family oriented. I think the population is about 52,000 people. I've been a resident for about 8 years now and love every day that I come home
Also, there is a Honda dealership right here.

COL in Florida is pretty cheap compared to most other places. One big help is no State Income Tax. Apt costs are avg. Not sure about FtL, but in West Palm apt complexs are desperate for tenents. You can ofter get 2 months free for signing a year lease. Many places up here have units that are 2-3 years old and never been used.
Parking is cheap (often free) compared to big cities, gas is above avg, insurance is a little above the national avg. Homes can be expensive as CBS construction is required.
