UK S2k Import to the US
Does anyone have any experience or can point me into the right direction. I'm looking at purchasing a 07 UK s2k, driving it around Europe for 4 years then shipping to the US. Does anyone have a estimate of how much I will pay for import tax to the US? It won't fall under the 25 year rule by then. Any ideas, or knowledge will help. Thanks!

Does/will the car conform to US safety and emissions standards? Taxes may be the least of your concerns. Import duty is only 2.5% of purchase price.

Warning
Imported motor vehicles are subject to safety standards under the Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1966, revised under the Imported Vehicle Safety Compliance Act of 1988; to bumper standards under the Motor Vehicle Information and Cost Savings Act of 1972, which became effective in 1978; and to air pollution control standards under the Clean Air Act of 1968, as amended in 1977, and 1990.
If vehicles manufactured abroad conform to U.S. safety, bumper, and emission standards, it is because these vehicles are exported for sale in the United States. Therefore, it is unlikely that a vehicle obtained abroad meets all relevant standards. Be skeptical of claims by a foreign dealer or other seller that a vehicle meets these standards or can readily be brought into compliance. Vehicles entering the United States that do not conform with U.S. safety standards must be brought into compliance, exported, or destroyed. (US Customs website)

Yeah, you're right, we will see. I need to crunch the US Safety conversion cost $$. I'm looking at a few mint s2000s and I would like to keep it for awhile, if I'm going to buy something mint. If it comes out to be too expensive, I might have to sell it before leaving. But I do grow attachments to vehicles.

Ain't that the truth. Being more of a truck guy, I'd dream about bringing a diesel Toyota Hilux over but I couldn't find any loopholes. Do you think if I brought it over and just used it as a track car, I would be okay? And just wait till the 25 year rule to kick in?

You can pretty much forget importing a RHD car to the US unless it's old enough to be exempt from all safety and emissions conformance. The cars from the British Isles (including Ireland) seem to have massive rust issues -- or at least rust discussions.
