Speaker upgrade
Hi guys
Now that winter is coming soon, I'll beter have some projects to do on the Honda for the "garage" period.
At the Spa meet we talked about this speaker upgrade, that some of you have done. What kind of speakers was it you had installed ? Did anyone take pics while they were doing the upgrade ? Or is it just dead simple to do with out any further instructions ?

SUN,
read the FAQ (ehh just looked and it's not there anymore?). There was a british site with some good pages, but I cannot finf it. But also read the elctronics forum on this site.
But if you have any questions feel free. It's actually quite easy to do. I decided I didn't want to cut the basket and made a frame from laminate parket (sorry it's a Dutch word, don't know exact translation) which I had lying around. If you want to cut your basket, just use a dremel or cutting pliers. You cab basically install any 16 cm speaker, but beware that you select one which has good effieciency since stock radio doesn't have a lot of power. Also watch the depth of the speaker, I think max is about 6,5 cm. When installing remember to put windows down first, so you can verify up front whether the speeker clears the window.

I haven't built them in the doors. I bought cheap Philips Euro DIN 16,5 cm speakers. I am a Hifi enthousiast (as Ronald is) but in our car sound quality is not an issue IMO.
I saw in person the stock Honda speakers at Ronalds home: these are absolute crap of the upper shelf. Why is Honda not marketing it the VW/Audi way: let the buyer decide which brand of audio gear the dealer should fit or stock fit at the Honda plant at extra money instead of giving away this shit audio system with lousy proprietary dash controls. Have they learned this from M$ ?
I really hate the stock Honda cassette/radio, I've used it less than an hour in the last 10 months. Even in Netherlands the radio does to loose reception (maybe I should mount an antenna signal amplifier or is that piece already in the car ???). I cannot get used to the dash controls or the controls at the radio when I'm driving (only the off button). I don't want to upgrade on Honda's path with the overpriced CD-changer. So for me Honda is out of picture regarding audio systems. Next year I'll upgrade with a Kenwood system as is in my Passat. I do prefer more the sound of the F20C when I'm driving .

That's what one might call a clear cut attitude
I have no problems with the controls in the car just the poor sound qulity, so if a speaker upgrade can change that, only by 50%, then I'll do the change.
The only problem I have with the controls, is that in my other car everything is in the center console, this also goes for the mirror and windows switches. So I always reach for the wrong side in each of the two cars

Hi SUN,
I have about the same opinion as Maarten. I'm a hifinut, but
in the car I'm not so picky. I concur that the controls are lousy,
they should have put more functions in the mode button.
I used Infinity 61.1 (out of my head), because you could
point the tweeters towards the ears. I think Bart uses a combo,
with seperate tweeters. I think that's the best solution, but
you'll have to do some wiring. In hindsight I'd go for a little bit
more sensitive speakers, since I'd like to be able to play a littlebit
louder than this setup dows, but for 99% of the driving it's
enough. But with the MG Racing CAI, the F20C makes the
sweetest sound. You'll be amazed! People are turning their heads
when I pass by. A lot of rubbernecking!

Excitement is beginning to set in, the only bad part is, that I cant take the upgraded car to CH in next weekend, when I'm going down there for some sky diving in Lugano
