Smoking breaks
Hi,
On sunday I went out for lunch with my girlfriends parents, her sister and her boyfriend, at the end I brought down my S2000 and gave each one of them (well not the mother) a ride, I wen't each time through about a 1km of tight turnings where I used the breaks quite a bit and gave the car a hard run (I suppose I wanted to show off !!!) but at the end of each trip my breaks where smoking !!.
Is this normal ?,
Have damaged something ?
Anyone have other breaks than the stock ones installed ?
Thanks.

Hi,
I've never had smoking brakes at all, I've heard my rotors do the clinging sound as the exhaust does as well. But this was only after several laps on a race track. The only smoke I've seen, was by washing a car after having been driving it recently, so the rotors was still a bit warm.
I've thought about buying a 355mm brake upgrade, but I guess you will really only feel it in track use ? If I would buy it, I would go for a big option, wich would mean that I can not put my 16" wheels back on. And then it's harder to bring the car back to stock, that's probably why I haven't done it yet.

Bpa,
Never heard of smoking breaks.
Maybe the breaks are dirty or cleaned and there is silicon or something else on the breaks.
Check if there are leaks towards the breaks. (breaking fluid !!, coolant )
just my 2 cents

Don't worry. It's quite normal. I had mine on fire and with the rotors glowing red!
I've got Honda red sports pads (although not at the time I saw flames) and Spoon drilled disks. Just don't stop immediately after a hardbraking session, let the rotors and pads cool down for a bit.

Hahaha!
I thought this was a thread on 'pauzes to smoke a cigarette' (i.e. smoking break in English), but it turned out that you meant the brakes instead!!
Accidental funny misspelling...
In any event, it is not unusual to have smoking brakes after some hard riding and stopping, unless you became aware of fading, because than you might have 'glazed' the brake pads through which the braking performance rapidly decreases.
Since you didn't mention anything about the car braking badly, you should not have to worry!

Siepel

Hahahaha, I second that. I thought this thread was about taking a break to have a smoke. Perfectly reasonable error for our international friends. I don't know jack when it comes to other languages. At any rate, I used to smoke and would pull over on the side of the road to have a cigarette so I wouldn't smoke in the car. I've since quit, problem solved. For all those out there looking to quit smoking, buy a nice car and see which is more fun.
