How do you get to Athens from Prague?
Hello all:
I have a couple questions concerning my trip to europe this summer.
1- What is the best way to reach Athens from Prague? Take a train to Italy then a ferri across?
2- Also has anyone visited or know anything about Mallorca, an island off the coast of Spain? I was also wondering what would be the best way to get there.
Thanks!!!!

Hi Emily, hope you got the bird crap off your car OK
No good air links I know of between Prague and Athens so your best bet is probably the train. Don't try and do it in one go though as it'll take forever. Yes you want to go through Italy and then get the ferry, rather than passing through the Balkans.
Mallorca is supposed to be quite nice, I've only been there <24 hours on business though so can't comment first hand. Plenty of British and German tourists to party with but quite cultural as well. I wouldn't say it was essential though, unless you have a particular reason to go there.
How is the planning going?

there MUST be a flight between athens and prague..
There are quite a few czech holiday-goers in greece now, and both cities being major tourist destinations, I think you should ask a travel agent.

The answer is that it's difficult. I've spent time it the Balkans and loved it, but the train system's not great, and I'd advise against it. Absent driving (a long, long trip on poor roads, but it would be beautiful if you've got time to spare) flying is probably your best option. Travel agents can help with that. I've flown a lot of 2nd/3rd world airlines, and (at least those in Eastern Europe) I'd feel comfortable using (and you might get a cheaper ticket).

I've found the parts of Greece I can get to easily (the islands) dull after a bit. The rest is tough to reach. Summer's can be hot. In any case, depending upon where you are in Spain, it's a lovely country. Have fun. Swing through Frankfurt and drive the Nurburgring! But check out my post in the Racing/Competition forum first...
