Default An Aussie in Europe

Just about to leave sunny Sydney, Australia for a conference in Lisbon.

I thought I would then tack on a brief driving holiday in Europe. My intention is to hire a car to drive from Portugal, through Spain and up to France (finishing in Paris).

Unfortunately, impossible to hire a sweet vehicle such as an s2000, got myself a little Opel Astra (Seat etc) instead .

Anyway, some quick questions.

1. Any suggested scenic routes?
2. Would Euros already be accepted in even the smallest towns in Portugal?
3. Any other tips for a virgin european driver?
4. Good restaurants/Bars in Lisbon

BTW, Sydney is as usual, sunny with clear blue skies (fires are out), 30 degrees c air temperature, 22 degrees c water temperature - girls are in short skirts and convertibles a plenty!

PS: I also posted this in the European forum but thought you guys could give more specific help with Portugal
