If I come to WTDx, I'll volunteer for one stop, Dave.

Well, the Lord willing and if my car gets well, the poker run is on. I pretty much figure my car will be on the road, providing the supercharger is repaired and back on the car by April. I was planning on using the hill climb as part of the Poker Run. I assume it is a public road, I am just wondering if the pavement is ok. I was on that road a couple of years ago and the surface was pretty loose. Lots of gravel. I never got a chance to run it in Sept. with my car broke down. I thhink Sheila and Ron are going back to the Dragon this week, mayby they can check it out. I would hate to put a bunch of proud "S" owners on a gravel pit road. It is a awesome veiw though.
It's not gravel, Dave, but it was paved about 300 years ago and it's rougher than a corncob (to use the comparison my grandfather would have used). I went up (twice..once before I figured out it was the road they used for the hillclimb), and anything over 30 mph is really painful.
thats cuz you have a stiff ass cr suspension super groovy

Go to Tirerack.com - you can get an artist rendition of your car with your choice of wheels and tire - it will give you a good idea of how they look, and Patrick - you are an awesome photoshop guru - I really thought that pic was real -

Dave, a small group of us went up the hill climb road on Saturday. There wasn't really any gravel on the road; just a lot of leaves and stuff. However, indeed the pavement is a bit rough, but there were only a few small potholes.

Now, with that said, one of the locals told me they were going to repave the hill-climb road "soon", as the event was a moderate success this year and they want to draw a much larger crowd next year. So, you can take that for what it's worth. Could be repaved this year, could be never.

As for speed, we went up fairly cautiously, but a couple of the guys went flat-out coming back down and reported "a bit slippery in places, but fun!".

To get to the road from Robbinsville on Hwy 143 is a nice drive, but coming out (or in) on Joyce Kilmer Rd off 129 is quite a rough road (old asphalt)as well.

Hope this helps! See you at WTD.

thanks for checking it out Sheila. I'll make a final decision on route for the Poker Run in January sometime. If they pave it, it definitely will be in, but its November. I don't know if they will pave a road in N.C. during the winter. I know they wouldn't do that around here. With my luck, they would be paving it the week of WTD. (I have visions of Patrick spinning fresh asphalt into the front of Ken's CR)
