For those going down early....Please be careful !!! Some of "OUR" roads might not be cleared of debris....

The storms must have hit our area very bad...Check-out this letter from our SVP...@ Duke, that I received today !!!

To: Power Delivery Employees

From: Jim Stanley, SVP, Power Delivery

Overnight in the Carolinas, we experienced a significant line of severe thunderstorms and high wind that resulted in around 250,000 power outages for customers. Hardest hit areas include the Nantahala area, Gastonia, Charlotte, Greensboro, Durham, Chapel Hill, High Point, Salisbury, Hendersonville and Robbinsville.

Please use extreme care and caution around debris and in driving since multiple traffic lights are out.

Currently, we have 226,000 customers without power, and we have crews deployed who are evaluating the damage. Our system experienced significant damage including two 500 kV transmission towers down and damage to two 44 kV transmission lines. We expect repair to take several days and are working to provide estimated times of restoration to customers as quickly as possible.

In addition to our Carolinas field teams, 300 Midwest Field Operations personnel are in route to assist. Also, we are requesting 650 more off-system resources through the Southeastern Electric Exchange Mutual Assistance. Progress Energy may also have personnel available to assist later today or tomorrow.

We have also experienced some technical issues with our outage management and customer call computer systems, including the duke-energy.com web page. Teams are working to quickly address these problems.

Thanks for taking extra care to work safely to best serve our customers and to restore their power.

Jim

We got hit by that storm at 4:30 this morning. As a matter of fact, it hit just as I was getting up. It sounded like a freight train when it started. (I thought they'd started flights early at National Airport it was so loud). We had wind gusts up to 60 mph and tornado warning from 0430 to 0630. It was one huge cold front.

Hmmm, first time I've heard of a week being a lot of extra vacation time. First time in about 10 years that I've actually taken a whole week at one time. I'll be there Monday.
