Does anyone know who had those super cool pen sized cameras that suction cupped onto the side of the car and plugged into the camcorder?? I liked those.
I think it was one of the Florida guys. Someone else had a pretty cool setup too - was it Willie Gee? I just remember watching the footage, but I think tidaldwave would know.

I used those lipstick cameras last year. It was Nzaizer's setup. Tidalwdave has a similar setup. They worked great! I got some awesome footage behind the front wheel, on the trunk, and on the windshield. I will see if I can get the websites for ordering or you can contact nzaizer or tidal for their input.

Last year I used the sticky pod to get the view behind the driver's front wheel. In fact you can see my car on Stickypod's web-site.

http://www.stickypod.com/customers.htm

The equipment we will be bringing will be the following:
Canon 10D (various lenses)
Sony DCR-TRV70 with .45x wide angle lens
Sticky Pod Mount
Rick's camera mount

The place that we stayed at did not have TV's that allowed for external sources. IMO, it would be cool if we could share the footage with the group while we are there.

If the hotel doesn't have inputs on the TV's again, then we can use my laptop.

Cool! That's a great idea for a backup.

My Sticky Pod just came in - this thing is impressive

I plugged it to my desk (which is a good 30 lbs and has another 30 lbs sitting on top of it) and was able to pick everything up using the Sticky Pod

One thing I highly recommend with mounting the camera outside the car is an external mic to place inside the car. That way you don't just get wind noise. Also, if you plan to do any editing of the video, then keep the radio off. You can always add music to it later.

Thanks for the advice, but I got it mostly for still shots. I don't know if I'm going to get into video that heavily yet.....

With the stickypod, you can certainly get some pretty cool angles for some still pics.
