Default RtD 2024 Early Birds Drive

As usual I am planning to get an early jump on driving some of the the great roads around the dragon for 2024. Don't think I'll be headed back up around the BOTD in VA. Looking to go explore more north west of the devil's triangle and of course do it too. Its been a while so going to check it out. This look's like a Wednesday thing to do before the event kicks off. Planning to head out early too. Always love more seat time in the mountains. Hope to see everyone soon. Post up if interested. Later BD

Be sure to check out US27 between the Petros junction and Elgin. Good Mexican restaurant in Wartburg (El Patron). From Elgin head west through Rugby (worth a stop if you have time, also killer waterfall and 1 hr hike before Allardt at Colditz Cove State Natural area (if not in a drought). Going on, TN 52 from Jamestown to Livingston is a challenging road and lots of good options from there. For a real challenge try Burrville road going west out of Sunbright, or any road west from Sunbright for that matter. Some are rough, all are narrow and curvy. Don't bother with Big South Fork. Roads are newer and straight! Also, don't try the road from Devil's Triangle north to Norma. All dirt and potholes. Not S2k or CTR material. Also, while you're around Jamestown, check out Muddy Pond, an authentic Amish/Mennonite community a little west of US127. If you go south to I40 from there check out Ozone Falls in Crab Orchard, a short hike from the highway. Lots of waterfalls on the Cumberland Plateau going south from there, if you are willing to do some hiking. Don't tell anyone how much you enjoy the Plateau. We want the tourists to stay in the Smokies!

I will try to join you if things work out.

Looks like some of us are headed to BOTD in the spring. Tim, Bob and I are going to stay in Wytheville,VA starting Sunday afternoon April 21st, 2024. Monday headed up to the Hellbender in WV. They did it last year with Ken. So we will go check that out. Then Tuesday we will trek back down to Fontana on some of the most amazing twisty mountain roads. Just too many to say. If you are interested just post up.
