I just purchased Motorola talkabout T5000 FRS/GMRS two way radio's with a claimed 5 mile distance. We will see!
Just understand that the FRS/GMRS radios do not transmit at full power when using the FRS channels only when using the GMRS channels.

i picked this up for my Motorola T5950....transforms throat vibrations to words, can do PTT or VOX....won't have to worry about wind interfering

NO VOX...NO VOX...FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, BREAK THE VOX FEATURE OFF ALL YOUR RADIOS!!!

I've whipped 3 radios down the mountainside being forced to listen to some moron's musical preferences because they had VOX turned on. Please, don't make me toss a fourth radio off a cliff .

BTW...be sure you have strong, fresh batteries (and backup batteries to replace during weekend). You'll need them cuz you'll forget to turn the radio off . And 5 mile range quips or no...if your batteries are sour, you won't talk to the guy parked next to you through these radios .

the VOX on mine only reacts to throat vibrations...so unless you are singing in won't pick up on it...these things are very cool and can be had for around $40 ea

I scored these at my local wally world:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp...944:178120:4511

no sub channels, but then I doubt most will have sub channel anyways. The price is right and comes with all the goodies.

BTW, i think these radios can transmit on high power on the shared GMRS/FRS channels....

actually all of the Motorolas have sub channels...not sure if we'll use them or not....that's a nice package deal you got though for the price
