Default RADIO's for the Dragon!

I would like to purchase one for the trip but I am just not sure which kind I will need. Just a motorola 2 way radio or handheld CB style?

are they required, needed?

I think it would be a safe investement, heck I already spend $500 just getting ready for this trip!

2 way FRS.

Please get one with subchannel capability. I think all the new ones have this, but there's always a few people who don't have it and it forces the rest of the group onto very noisy main channels.

Set your default channel to 4:20

yeah that was my other question, is there a known channel that we all get on for the event and for the runs up and down the dragon.

I think last year we ended up on 4:0 (main channel) for the above noted reasons. That lasted about 5 minutes for me; there's enough going on where I don't want to be filtering noise while driving. I turned mine to a subchannel with the cars immediately around me.

I would suggest the GMRS radios. They are comptible with FRS but have twice the power, which means more range!

These radios are cheap! If you want to rent, go to Walmart, buy them, then return when you are done. Hahahaha...

Doubt I'll have a radio - too hard to hear it over the pace notes being read to me
