according to this almanac http://www.almanac.com/astronomy/ris...ami/2012-04-11

sunrise will be at 7am. google says it is 153 miles (3 hours and 7 minutes). i don't remember it taking that long to get to route 80 and it isnt much farther from there. ken do you remember? otherwise ill be leaving with the sunrise crew at 4am sharp

uh oh, ken has CRS...can anyone remember how long it took us til we got to that dirt parking lot at the beginning of 80? i know that we would have been there even that much faster if we hadn't stopped for that pee break...

I'm pretty sure we got to Rt 80 around noon. That would have made the drive around 2.5 hours roughly.

That would put us at the start of Rt 80 around 2 hours. There's still the drive to the parkway and then the trip down the parkway to the road to Mt Mitchell and then up to Mt Mitchell. At least 45 minutes to the parkway and another 45 to the road to Mt. Mitchell.

Dude...I didn't go last year, but if I may chime in (given the dangerous road you are heading down...semi-suggesting to cut out a pee break ...)

If folks have to get up at OOH-GOD-HUNDRED hour of the morning...then there WILL be coffee. And if there's coffee...and ...then there *WILL* need to be a pee break
