One thing that concerned me were some of the complaints I was hearing to Fontana staff. We're there in a group of over 100 cars, and these are the complaints people could have against us:

1. Cars are loud at all hours of the day and night
2. Some of us (myself included) get a bit louder with alcohol
3. FRS radios going off left and right
4. Room/Cabin parties
5. etc.

The Fontana staff seemed very grateful to have us, but if we don't follow up some of our complaints with compliments they will see us as ungrateful and ask us not to come back......this has happened before.

I for one think Fontana Village is the best venue we've used yet - eventhough Knoxville was a blast, Fontana's location couldn't be better. I found all of their staff overly accomodating, and weighed what I paid for my room against what I got - it was just right. Yeah, there's no cell phone reception, but that is out of their control for the most part. They did have wireless Internet, and I wasn't expecting that

In retrospect, you get what you pay for and I didn't go to this meet to enjoy my room accomodations. If anything I prefer to complain to mother nature for keeping the Dragon so wet, but I still had a blast

We still didn't have a phone in our cabin. As before my concern wasn't with contacting other people since we had our radios, but more safety-related (ie what do we do if there's a fire or someone needs medical attention).

Last time we asked for an iron but never got it. This time we asked for towels and we barely beat the staff back to our cabin.

I think there was something else positive I had to add, but I just made it home after the long drive and can't remember.

Definitely an improvement over last time, staff and facilities much better prepared even with the huge number of cloggers also on site. I actually had internet in my lodge room as well, perfect for watching the national weather service radars for breaks in the rain.

My only complaint is a small one and not easily fixable, the lodge rooms have about zero soundproofing, so if you want to make noise, or can't stand noise, I recommend a cabin. I would have got one for this event but there were none available by the time I registered. My apologies to the Atlanta group for shutting you guys down at 11PM on Friday, but the +1 and I were both exhausted., Thanks for going silent and glad you got into a cabin for Saturday.

Me; "Hey do you guys think you could turn the noise down just a tad? these walls are paper thin and we can hear EVERYTHING you say next door."
Atlanta Grp member somewhat sheepishly: "EVERYTHING?"
Me: "Yep, EVERYTHING"
Jillian and I are still trying to figure out just how you can play Marco Polo in a double room.. but we, like the army, have a "Don't ask, don't tell" policy.

One more thing comes to mind...

We had a phone in our cabin (the 70's Western Electric type ), but of all the lamps and lights in the entire cabin only *two* had working light bulbs .

I mean like one bathroom light and the light over the table in the kitchen, and yes, I did check to make sure they were plugged in.

I told somone at the registration desk about it on Saturday morning but they never did anything about it.

Sorry about that mike

I can't recall how the marco polo conversation got brought up as well. I'm sure there was some interesting dialogue passing through the walls.

I like the village b/c it's just so close to the dragon. It's easy to go back to the room, sleep or eat, then head back. The only downside is that unlike the Jamison or other hotel like places, there is not one huge parking lot for us to congregate and look at each others cars. One of my favorite things is checking out all the other cars that people have and talking with new people. It's hard to do when everyone is scattered around in cabins and rooms all over a huge mountainside. Maybe if we had plans for a big bonfire or something (of course that would have been hard with the rain anyway).

It's a hard tossup I guess. On one hand, the regular hotels/motels offer a better social experience but, on the other hand, the village makes it very easy to get to the dragon and other roads that are the main focus of the event to begin with.

BTW, what's the story with the cop that had that S pulled over on Welch Rd Saturday night?
