Locking this thread as I've posted full account on the DB'05 -- Weekend Stories thread >> here <<

Well the improbable happened Sunday evening while returning home from DB'05. Subject says it all I'm afraid .

I'm in Winston-Salem and The Bruised Banana is being worked on at Crown Honda.

Short story is that one of the three bolts (and of them...the one that retains the shear key) that holds the lower crank pulley backed off about 5 turns...allowing the shear pin to slip out enough for the engine to jump timing.

I'll post more once I`ve returned home.

Dave, sorry to hear about your bad luck. Hopefully it won't be too expensive to fix. Perhaps you should have them use raaaaannnch as loc-tite.

Thanks for making it a great weekend...

Really sorry to hear that Dave. At least it waited until after all of the DB fun.

When do you think you will get underway?

My Crown Honda service consultant, Blain, feels confident that I'll be back on the road Thursday afternoon.

Wow, that's a long vacation. So, what have you been doing in Winston-Salem? Have you looked up Golden Eagle? He is is WS.

So does this mean that the serpentine belt idler/tensioner was not a problem, or just not the only problem?

Good Luck

Damn dude, that sucks. Someone remind me to check the torque on the crank pulley bolts!

Has anyone heard of this happening before?

This makes me think more and more about trailering to these events, but if I did that this weekend I would have missed out on the awesome parkway run.

If I make it to fall colors next year I will most definately be pulling the S...
