Fall Colors/Dragon Colors?
A few of us were sitting around after dinner (and copious amounts of really good wine) one night and started thinking about Fall Colors. Fall Colors (for those unfamiliar with the concept) is a meet in a mountainous area with good roads and lots of leafy type scenery. A lot of people go leaf peeping to admire the season change and what better place to do it than at the Dragon? Take a look at the poll and decide when (or if) you'd like to have a Fall Colors / Dragon Colors this Fall.

ugh that means i would have to pass on dbrxi...i would really like to see the fall colors though...have to wait a bit longer and see what the turnout for dbrxi is lookin like before i make a decision.
i think 2nd/3rd week of october would be perfect to see some nice colors though...im pretty sure it was right around then last year when i was looking at killboys highlights and wishing i was there to see the colors

My very first gathering was Fall Colors 2004. It changed my life - runs in my mind that over 200 cars were at that event and I beleave that was the last "big" Fall Colors gathering. I met people that have had an impact on me and my car. Interesting story came out of that event. My +1 (Anita) and I were Noobies, and our group drive was led by this guy with a tricked out Spa S he called the "Bruised Bananna". Yeah, thats right, my first group drive was led by our very own "W1ngman". He ask me if my wife would read the directions over the radio and act as a "navigator" for the him, since he was driving solo. I accepted the job, but my wife vetoed it, reminding me that she has no sense of direction. As it turned out, we got lost anyway.
I beleave that Raul and company have a fall "McDragon" event that would likely cut into attendance. You may want to discuss it with them, before selecting a date. I just wish I had enough vacation time to go. Also, as a "last minute" plan, there may not be good affordable options for event locations, especially if it gets "big". Just my two cents. But as far as having "Fall Colors" again, I'm all for it, and if you want to plan this for 2012 - count me in - I might even be willing to help out.

Their McDragon, is usually in November.....
Dave, I'd be honored if you helped out. I just checked and the next McDragon is the Summer one. I've sent Sheila a message asking about a Fall version. I'll just have to see how much interest there is.

Well, "late September" is DBR (9/15 - 9/18). Fall McDragon is always the first weekend in November, so that would make it 11/4 - 11/6 this year. My2kS2k also puts together a Blue Ridge Parkway run each October to hit the peak fall colors; usually the 2nd or 3rd weekend in October.
Just another consideration; there are many other fall events around that same timeframe, which is the main reason Raul decided to cancel DBR (so it wouldn't conflict with S2K Days, Fall Colors, Tom Catt Runs, Fall Crawl etc.), but as you know, it's been brought back by popular demand.
Another note; it's been our experience that the fall colors are still very prominent during Fall McDragon, as the colors usually peak up there around the 3rd week in October. However, because McDragon's a bit later AND it's the last weekend that Deal's Gap Grill is open for the season, most of the crowds are gone. (However, I will admit that last year it actually SNOWED a little one day!)
