^^^adorable

my ins. co. told me never "bail," just let them hit you...then you're not at fault If you do bail, then you're at fault.
I'm going to try and avoid.... head on collisions are not good for you!
On the dragon...it's either going to be a head on collision with another car, the side of a mountain, or fly off the mountain...I'll choose the head on collision with the car while maintaining my own lane for $500, Alex

I really liked the following philosophical assessment of the Dragon by Ken some time ago.

“It's not fear. You want to respect the Dragon. The road doesn't care who you are or what you do the other 51 weeks of the year. The Dragon is the Dragon. It's a beautiful road, it has no feelings. It treats you the same way it treats anyone else. It ignores you. The only person who determines what happens is you. Drive with respect. Respect for your personal limits, respect for the car, respect for other people on the Dragon. That's all that's required.” Ken Flower aka kgf3076

Damn Ken said all that. I'm going to say BS. Everyone should remember those great words.

I won't be able to attend this event.....but would like to relate a story. I have a second home not far from there and am in the area a lot.
Several years ago the BMW motorcycle owners had a large rally at Fontana Village. The county sheriff that had jurisdiction in the area of the Dragon had waged war against the motorcyclists that had turned the road into their own personal race track. The cyclists called it the "911 Club". If you completed the eleven miles in under 9 minutes....you were in the club and got a t-shirt. Anyhow...I believe his angst was directed primarily at the Japanese bike folks as opposed to Harley and BMW owners.

Anyhow...he staged an enforcement action on the weekend when the Beemer owners were there. I might add that they seemed to be a pretty docile crowd, and in my opinion, didn't warrant the extra scrutiny.....but I digress.

So Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane (or whatever his name) had one of his extremely overweight deputies dress in undercover attire (a pair of Liberty overalls) and drive an old pickup truck on the Dragon at a whopping 20 mph. As the motorcyclists came upon him....he would wave them around to pass....on the double yellow. A`few miles ahead Shefiff Coltrane set up a "safety checkpoint". As the offending motorcyclists arrived at the checkpoint.....the good sheriff had there traffic citation waiting on them.

Take from this what you will.

As previously mentioned.....there is only one service station in the area of Fontana Village.....was a Texaco and had only two pumps. It may have been updated....I dunno. Also very little cell phone reception.

Have fun and be safe.
