DBRXI Drive -Wednesday to Little Switzerland
I'm going to leave from MicroTel in Robbinsville, Wednesday morning at 10:00am and drive to Asheville, NC where we are going to make the trip to Little Switzerland. This will be a spirited drive in places and while newbies are more than welcome, it may be a bit intense.
Here are the details:
Where: Robbinsville, to NC 226A to Little Switzerland, NC and then the Blue Ridge Parkway to NC 80 and dinner and return to Robbinsville.
Length of the Rt. 226 - Little Switzerland - Rt. 80 loop: 41.8 miles
Total Number of Curves: 425
Average number of curves per mile: 10 per mile
Total number of switchbacks: 33 - 4 (including 1 270 degree switchback that will allow you to veify that your brake lights work) at the top of NC 80
Total number of S-curves: The NC 226A portion is a series of S-Curves interrupted by switchbacks! There's a series of 11 on NC 80 alone. One series is more than 1 mile long! (Ms. kgf3076 calls this road the Anaconda because if 129 is the Dragon, NC Rt. 80 has to be a serious Anaconda ).
This should keep things interesting. We'll stop in Little Switzerland and spend some time soaking up that clean mountain air (and maybe a coffee or bit of ice cream) and then we'll head back to Asheville for dinner at Cucina 24. Dinner will be prepared especially for us and will be four courses and dessert. I'll post the cost for dinner soon. It won't be unreasonable.
If you'd like to come along and see some great countryside and experience some really interesting roads, sign up below.
Drive map so you can see what you have to look forward to.
(Thanks to blindkenny.com for the drive information.)

I checked and they don't have lard at Cucina 24. I don't know how you can deep-fat fry anything without lard.
That's the other place. MicroTel is for people who like to save their money for extravagant dinners in Asheville.
