Hey everyone,

I've been looking forward to the Dragon all year.
Was planning on making the 1000 mile trip with my father for some quality bonding time.

I live in a different state from my parents (I'm a big boy) and my Dad doesn't drive my car very much. It's geared and supercharged and pretty twitchy. I bought the Racelogic Traction Control to make it safer for him to drive, but haven't had time to install it yet.

In talking to him, I'm getting the sense that he is very apprehensive about driving it on the Dragon. With the recent posts of even experienced S2000 owners crashing their cars lately, I'm getting apprehensive too.

I don't care if the car gets wrecked, but the last thing I want is for him to get hurt in the remote mountains without appropriate medical facilities (he has heart disease).

So my question is: Do I take a different car to the Dragon? I recently picked up an RS4 as a daily driver and could take that instead. It'd make for an easier road trip and would be more stable for a novice driver... especially if there's rain as is potentially in the forecast.

But I'm worried that I'll miss out on the camaraderie of an S2000 meet! Will you guys still talk to me if we take a different car?

Regardless of which car you bring, drive within your limits and you will be fine.
The problems begin when ego kicks in and one feels the need to prove something to someone else.

Bring the S and enjoy it. Just know your limits.

Th only thing I can add is the advice of our Proving Ground drivers who drive a variety of cars, many prototypes with unknown or quirky handling -- "Drive uo to YOUR limit, not AT your limit"

In other words, start slow, approach YOUR limits cautiously, don't push it. Then enjoy!

I'm not worried about me.

I want my father to have a vehicle that has a measure of forgiveness built in.

I have found with my trips to the Dragon 2 pieces of advice:

1) Like they said drive your limits, if it is casual easy going, so be it. Just move over if someone faster is behind you. Enjoy your time!

2) Put a lot of focus into your tires. Make sure they have good tread and good air pressure. Tires will make or break you at the Dragon.

How can I not agree with all of the previous posters? I think everyone is at least a little nervous driving the Dragon for the first time (and if they're not they SHOULD be). If he doesn't feel comfortable driving the actual Dragon, there are plenty of other beautiful roads in the area to enjoy.

Bring the S! For all the reasons already mentioned...

Bring the S, you can drive ON the Dragon itself, and your Dad can enjoy some of the many, many OTHER roads in the area that are not as technical (Skyway, Parkway, etc.)
