And we had FIRE! and BEER! Don't forget the beer! The guys from Ohio were funny as hell about all of this. Granted we all were concerned about the health and wellfair of the officer, but as far as the defendant, people were calling dibs on his wheels and stuff. Only the I.A.A. I think I will trailor my car next year.

We saw ya'lls fire, we forgot to get wood ourselves. We had the beer, and being the coastal people we are... margaritas too!

 

I ran with a number of guys from Ohio, and found them unsympathetic to this characters actions. All were a great group of people and none of them seemed inclined to defend this guys actions. To quote one Ohio member "he seemed like a nice guy", but that was about as kind as it got. No one was defending, covering up or trying to justify this jerk.

On the issue of an "unregistared" participant, I had one non-registered, non-member, ask about coming to the Dragon to enjoy, and I discouraged him. I realize that US 129 is a public road and anybody can be on it and sort of "participate" in the event, but these events are not cheap and encouraging non-member, non-registared, participation weakens the event for all of us. While that may not be an issue with a number of you, it is with me. As to what can really be done to address that problem, I don't know. I doubt there is much Raul and the other organizers of this event can do that they have not all ready done. All this being said, we have to recognize that there will always be one or two "jerks" in the mix. If you don't make them feel welcome, they will stay away.

I think this poster was trying to say that we all have exceeded the speed limit once in a while. (and we have) I don't think the poster was trying to make us all as guilty as him. There is a BIG difference between a moving violation and major traffic felony. As for the sympathetic tone, well, I too am a little unsypathetic to someone that just keeps on doing stupid things over and over and over. Perhaps this poster was referencing the "dilbert principal" (Everyone is an idiot, but thankfully not everyone is an idiot at the same time). That all being said, everybody has good point or two, and thankfully our justice system takes that into account. Since he contributed to the injury of a police officer, I expect he will be doing some time in a Kentucky jail, just to give him the chance to find that "goodness". Mayby he will learn, but he is obviously someone who learns the "hard" way.

As for banning this guy, I agree, but I'm not sure how you ban a guest?
since he could just registar under a different name.

I didn't mean to imply that we are all guilty just like him. I merely wanted to point out that we all need to bear in mind that we all probably broke a traffic law or two this weekend and that perhaps we should examine our actions.

Certainly, I would think that the vast majority of us would not have been at the speed he was allegedly at on a public highway (I don't really know how fast as all I have heard is hearsay). On top of that, I am also sure that the vast majority would have stopped. Would some people who were at the event try to outrun a cop???? I think you are naive if you think the answer is no.

I'll freely admit that I know the guy. I've met him a few times. My impression was basically, nice guy, smart guy, polite guy. I guess many of us were wrong about him. I in no way condone his actions, though. I think he was an asswipe the way that he acted and I am pissed off about it. The whole idea of coming to this event on a suspended liscence, driving like a fool and then rabbiting away is absolutely rediculous and unaccpeptable. That part of it was willful on his part and there are no excuses for it.

Am I concerned about how this how this reflects on the Ohio forum, the event, and S2KI in general? Damn straight I am.

I also think that the court system will try him and that at that point, the truth of the matter will come out. All the rest is speculation fueled on rumor, preliminary police statements, and news reporting and of course if it was said on the news, it must be true, right?

Again, I'll state that it is a damn shame that this kid focked up his life like this and I still hope he gets back on track. It could have been a lot worse, people could have been killed.

 

I understand and respect your point of view. I was just concerned that if we imply consent by being silent or not rebuking the behavior, then we tend in appear as if we condone it.

I was chatting with Kevin (NO S8NT) and he ran with this guy a couple years in a row at the Dragon, and he said the same thing. Seemed like good people, decent driver, but no clue that something like this would ever happen. For those that knew him it must be hard to understand. I think the drugs found may hold a clue as to his changes. But I do not know him, so it is his actions I can only judge, and I disapprove of them. As I am sure we all do.

Oh, hell yeah, I speed all the time. My point was, I stop when I am caught. But I didn't have drugs in my trunk. I got pulled in the center of a long caravan of S2000's last year. We were all speeding for well over 300 miles. I got caught. I pulled over, was polite, and told the truth. The officer let me go with a warning. 85 in a 55 work zone.

So yeah, we all break the traffic laws, some more so than others.
