And I am sure that no one on their way to WTD exceeded the speed limit by a huge amount?????? Sure you didn't.
Does that justify Gray's actions? No it does not. He was speeding excessively in a busy stretch of highway and when caught, acted in an grossly immature way that had nearly devastating consequences.
By the way, the cop is recovering and will be OK, thank God.
I can only hope that he learns something from this and that he changes his ways. The guy had a lot going for him... smart guy, going to a good college, good grades, but made some really stupid decisions. I sincerely hope that this is a major life lesson for him.
A lot of people here are mostly concerned about how this affects them and how it makes us appear. I certainly understand that especially from Raul. I was and am concerned with this as well. In fact, I avoided the area on my return trip home and took a more scenic route.
I just hope he comes out of this OK.
Oh, yeah, I also just violated my own advice from this weekend when I stated that the less said about this incident on the forum the better, for the site, for the event, and for the perpetrator.

What about this whole ordeal will make anyone feel sympathetic?
* Racing on a public highway
* Speeding
* Reckless driving
* Fleeing
* Assault, first degree
* Five counts of Wanton endangerment, first degree
* Possession of marijuana
* Possession of drug paraphernalia
* Operating a DUI suspended license
Not to mention the more trivial issues like...
*"Freeloading" to the event
*Risk to our community
*Scuteny of other S owners (You yourself said you took another route)
*Bad publicity
*Risking future events
I've noticed how some Ohio owners have shoved this under the rug as quickly as possible and walked away as if nothing ever happened. Thats wrong.
Acting as if nothing ever happened and not making an example will only doom ourselves to have this happen again, something I believe neigther you nor I nor anyone else wants.
Do we need to call his house and leave evil messages? No... Do we need to egg his car at every chance? No... Do we need to make this huge deal about it? No...
But what we do need to do though is let everyone know what IS and ISN'T acceptable at great owner events like we had last weekend and also what is at stake.

I don't want to defend this guy because I think he did a lot of things wrong, but not being registered for the event isn't one of them in my mind ...
I recall reading this thread: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=380020 and thinking that we're all so nice and how great this community is. I realize its easy to point the finger at this individual for not registering (and maybe in some of your minds, there's a difference between not being able to register because it was full and not even trying to register) ...
But, in any case no matter what there's no excuse for driving on a suspended license. Some of you may feel bad for the guy, but driving on a suspended license, with illicit drugs, and then running from the cops is not exactly a stand up citizen there.

While I sympathise to some extent and understand your point of view, I do not totally agree.

To defend anything this punk ass kid did, would be a major mistake. Because he had access to a quality education??? give me a break...more of a reason to pissed at him, he blew an opportunity to be a better person and choose a wrong path. And because he is a nice guy? Yeah, so are pimps, and most drug dealers, when the get what they want. This idiot, choose to drive without a license, with drugs, and paraphernalia, etc. etc. etc.
Sorry, this guy made choices in his life he will have to deal with. Personal responsibility has got to make a come back in the country.. I am so tired of hearing "he was beaten, his dad mistreated him, etc. etc. He made all the wrong decisions. Period.
He was hoping to sell his shit in TN, and make some money. Dan was probably one of his customers... J/K Dan, you brought your own.
Punk is where he should be. Hopefully he will learn, but he hasn't yet.
Mark
My opinion I could be wrong... but I'm not.

Hey MulderATO, it is being discussed here. What is wrong about community members acknowledging the incident and moving on with lessons learned?
Is there a right way to end this discussion? This incident impacted me psychologically and taught me valuable lessons that I can live with for the rest of my life.
So should I spill my guts out in public forum just to be "Right" in other people perspective?
Perhaps, somethings are better left unsaid. Let's not forget this incident with big discussion and hooplah about what was wrong and who was wrong.
If you know what went wrong and how it changed so many people's life, learn from it and don't ever make the same mistake as Gray McQuarrie did. That should be the lesson and you could be silent about this yet we could all agree that the incident was sad tragedy and move on.
While I appreciate your criticism towards "some" Ohio member's action I believe they have carried out the "action" based on thoughtful considerations not in order to avoid any blames or to take the path of least resistance. These are good and honest people who would love to see nothing more than the growth of this community and the well being of the integrity that holds the community together.
