So, lately, a lot of assholes have attempted to put together cute little propaganda pieces and mask it as documentary, to support, with clear bias, their particular raison d'etre.
Let me assure you this ain't that.
Restrepo is probably now my favorite war movie. It's a documentary, very real and very intense.
This was done through National Geographic Films, and the ability to keep it at that high standard is apparent. This movie is not deliberately political. That is to say, it doesn't look for any causes, politics, subterfuge, or anything like that. This is a year with the guys in the unit, no more, and definitely no less. Whatever you feel may be in there is definitely your reaction to the movie (I saw that in the audience as they were walking out).
Amazing.

Looks good, I will check it out. I am a big Sebastien Junger guy, hopefully he can translate his writing talent to making movies.

Saw it last nigh on National Geopgraphic Channel, I think it just came out on DVD.
I liked it and thought it was well made. Makes you appreciate what the guys go through over there, but was expecting a little more.
They were supposedly taking fire pretty much every day but there is not a lot of battle footage and most is at very long range. Not that I wanted them in harms way but thought that the intensity of the movie would be greater than it was. The movie plays up the tedium of day to day more than the being on edge.
Still very much worth a viewing. I thought the Major commanding them was pretty bad ass. Don't know how the rank and file felt about him but he seemed to be a pretty good commander from the way he is shown in the movie.
