Anybody up for a drive just over the border into NY.... planning focusing on driving tour on the twisties ringing a few of the Finger Lakes, a stop at a winery with possible ending on the old, original 40s/50s road course at Watkins Glen Most of these central NY guyz are into racing in one form or another. I'm def planning to go if this comes off as planned. It's about 3.5 hour drive from Philly, depending on the start location... maybe a little closer for those in NE Pa. You would need to plan on a 2.5 day weekend to enjoy the trip... I'll drive up north late on Friday afternoon, Nov. 8th, and return on Sunday afternoon. I may be able to arrange some simple dorm-type accommodations (almost free-->my old frat' house) in Ithaca if there is enough interest. It's a beautiful part of NY if you've never been there...
If there's any interest, I'll post followup info here on who is going, etc

What Triple-H said is true. My suggestion was to lap the old road course which was and is made up of public streets and roads. It is a very challenging course, one which should give you great respect for the drivers of yesteryear. I, for one, can't even imagine coming down the back stretch into Watkins Glen at high speeds in a car equipped with drum brakes.
As for the second question, I have run an event at WGI without an aftermarket roll bar. As Doug says, "...it is up to the organizing body that runs the school." FWIW, I ran at a Porsche Club event.
Hope to see some of you at the November 9th gathering.
