Default For Sale threads by non members

I wanted to revisit the For Sale thread rule that has been stickied at the top for quite a few years. It clearly states that only paid members can post for sale threads and any other threads will be locked/deleted.

I don't mean to single out any members, but recently there was a for sale thread by a member who no longer had his car and has no reason to pay $20 for a membership just to unload a few of his leftover parts.

Personally, for past members who are known in the forum, I don't see a problem with those sort of for sale theads but per the agreed upon rules for for sale threads I am obligated to close them.

What is the community's stand on this sort of situation? I think we can all agree that the rule exists to keep for sale threads clean and open for trusted members, proven by having a paid membership. In the case of someone who is no longer as active or doesnt have their car anymore, the only reason to pay for a membership is to sell some parts?

Do you think there should be an exclusion to the rule? Like for example, if a non-member had at least 2-3 people vouch for them in their FS thread, should we leave it open, or have some sort of system like that? I don't want ot make it overly complicated but I also don't want to discourage member to member sales of used parts since that is an important part of the community. Or do you think that $20 isnt a big deal and they should just pony up if they really want to sell that bad?

Just wanted to open it up for discussion.

The 'Members Only' rule is an s2ki rule right? Can a region bend the rule? just asking. I don't have any issues with the change, just asking the question.

I think for the main FS forum you have to be a member. For the Cars For Sale subsection, non-members can sell their own s2000, but no other types of cars.

I think its up to the region whether or not they want to allow non-members to create FS posts. I'll check around to confirm.

I support the membership requirement. I also think there should be a posts requirement like 100 posts before you can sell. Just makes things a little safer.

well i dont see a problem with that, but with the rise in new members just coming on here and trying to sell stuff i think is wrong. I dont see why they shouldn't have to pay for the membership like we all did in the past. I've had a membership for 3 years and recently didn't renew it since i don't have my car atm. I have been waiting until i get my car back to start selling stuff again.

Just checked Mid-A and Metro's FS rules, they both are strict members-only.

It's the price one has to pay to play. Only paid members can sell

I've started to see this happen on other sites as well. People start using it as a "craigslist" instead of a car forum. I say you have to be a paid member unless a number credible members vouch for you.

If you relax the rules here in Del-Val, you'll have non-members from other regions jumping in here and selling. That's where the trouble starts IMHO.

This is another very valid point
