Default Places to rent in Philly

everyone,

I have a friend that has pretty much accepted a job offer and will be working at the Nabisco Plant in Philly. Like any other area, I know that Philly has it's places that you would want to stay far away from.

So I figured I'd reach out to the S2KI family to see if any one could help give suggestions of areas that he should look at, as well as the areas he needs to stay far away from.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tom

how long term? What kind of price range?

There is a lot for sale/rent driving down byberry road. I live by city hall and commute past him every day. There is a lot of cheap stuff around the nabisco area. All depends on what you are looking for. Can't really help until we know what his price range is.

I think philly.com has a pretty good listing, but its been a while since I"ve been in the market.

Thank you Trump.

Most likely a year to year lease. Payment wise, probably anywhere between 600-900.

@ work now so I can't look around, but it would probably be best to be looking North (east or west, doesn't matter too much, west is a little more $$ but you won't see that until you hit Lower Moreland and beyond). Have him check out places close to the bucks county/montgomery county border.

Other than that, there should be a lot off byberry road and bustelton pike.

good luck.

Manayunk would be a fun location right along the Schuylkill River, bars, bike paths, etc...not too far away (?) from Nabisco via Ridge Pike to Rte 1. It was really *hot* for a while and thus $$$....but maybe it's cooled down to $$. Of course, parking is a b*tch there

I wouldn't rent in Manayunk because that commute up the Boulevard SUCKS (and Nabisco is at the far end of it). Not to mention the parking. Although there is plenty of rental space there in case he can't find anywhere else.

Lots of places to rent. He should take into consideration where he'd want to hang out. Living so far up Northeast philly kills the social life. (For me anyway).

Top picks would be
Northern Liberties : Hot area, easy access to 95 -> 63 to the plant.
Close to center city / old city. $$$
Art Museaum: Events, the Schuylkill, 676 -> 95. Close to CC/OC/Manayunk, parking sucks. $$
East falls : Next to manayunk.

The smell around the Nabisco factory is fattening

Shameless plug: I have a rental property semi close to there. It might become available soon
