Ummm it gets kind of shady in and around that area. Make sure you have a HT and alarm for your car.

The commute from Allentown in the AM will be a sinch at 5am, but you will want to shoot yourself everyday on the way home. You will be looking at 2 or more hours combined in daily driving, and you will add so many miles on to your S2K.

I find it nearly impossible that you cant find something in your price range. Here are just a few that took me 5 min to look up.

Ok so that was way too easy to find Donald, and some offer parking too.
I like the idea of living with other people, plus its an easy way to make new friends and networks outside of your every day routine.

That's why it's easy. You're looking in the rooms to share section versus the apartment section. I'm looking to share a 1BR with the pre-wife (PW), so we're looking at not having roommates. Also have 2 cats to follow, so others may or may not be cool with sharing space with 2 cats.

Yea, the shifts are from 6-3 and 11-7, so, leaving at 3pm will hopefully beat the rush that starts around 3:30 on I-76.

Nothing against having roommates since it's a good way to meet people, but not on my list of valid criteria. =)

As far as the s2000 is concerned, it'll probably just sit in the garage in Allentown during the week. I only need a parking space so the PW can park and commute up north for school.

Maybe I better pick up that BB Hardtop before you do!

Haha. Okay. Seems like the place on 16th and Spruce for 650/mo may not be too bad. Good to know that apartments exist for that range

Are you engaged? That was a strong choice of words if you're not..

I'd use 'girlfriend' until the ring is on....

Sorry for the interruption, now back to the show, "Find Donald a Philly Home"

Girlfriend is a bit highschool, non-serious.
Serious GF is a bit longer to say and is a bit... working too hard to make a point
Fiance she is not quite yet.
Prewife - I guess it could mean engaged..... so perhaps the right word is...

*drumrolll*

Pre-Fiance... TOo long.

Pre-Fi (pronounced Pree- Fee)

===========================

Anyway, offer is almost on its way! *crosses fingers*

Donald, if you want to really experience the city, I would recommend living downtown. If you are not a big city person, then living outside is your best bet. I used to work at 1818 Market and lived both in Lansdale and then 3rd and South. Lansdale was advantageous because I could leave the hustle of the city and still have the car at home for running errands. The city was great because I could walk or motorcycle everywhere and not have to worry about parking (car moved once a week, maybe). If you are living in the 'burbs and the girl is commuting to K-Town, I'd look for some intersection of a Septa line and 476. Plymouth Meeting and Lansdale are the first that come to mind.

Yea, Lansdale or Plymouth meeting comes to mind as a nice in the middle place. I think it's a possibility, but this is what I see with some other details.

- Pre-fi is living with me.
- Keeping place in Allentown as weekend place. House mortgage covered with current room rents anyway.
- I have to be in at 6am sharp. Can't be late ever.
- GF commutes to K-town 2-3x/week.
- I have to work M-F.

Commute from Home
Commute to Philly: 1hr 15min, $12/gas, $12/day parking, $5 tolls: 650/mo
Commute to K-town: 20min, $9gas x 2-3 times a week. 72-108/mo
Ballpark Rent & Utils: 0 Extra.
Bottomline Cost: $758 with long ass commute for me.

Plymouth Meeting Public Transit
Commute to Philly: 1hr (L Bus to M line down?) 1hr $100 pass?
Commute to K-town: 1hr (58mi) $12gas,$5 tolls x 2-3 times a week. 120-200/mo
Ballpark Rent & Utils: 800
Bottomline Cost: $1100 with 1hour commutes for both of us.

Plymouth Meeting Driving
Commute to Philly: 30mins, $6/gas, $12/day parking. 360/mo
Commute to K-town: 1hr (58mi) $12gas,$5 tolls x 2-3 times a week. 120-200/mo
Ballpark Rent & Utils: 800
Bottomline Cost: $1360 with 1hour commutes for Shayna and 30 minutes for me.

Lansdale Public Transit
Earliest train from Lansdale to Philly comes in at 6:05am. Unacceptable.

Lansdale Public Transit
Commute to Philly: 45 min, $9/gas, $12/day parking, $4 tolls: 500/mo
Commute to K-town: 40min, $9gas,$5 tolls x 2-3 times a week. 120-170/mo
Ballpark Rent & Utils: 800
Bottomline Cost: $1470 with 45 minute commute for both of us.

Center City 1BR
Commute to Philly: 5 min walk
Commute to K-town: 1hr 15min $12gas,$5 tolls x 2-3 times a week. 136-200/mo
Ballpark Rent & Utils: 1200 (really nice place)
Parking Spot: 130/mo
Bottomline Cost: $1530 with no commute for me, and a little pain for the GF.
With lower 800/mo rents, cost can go down to 1000/mo

Surrounding Areas 1BR
Commute to Philly: 15-45 minutes public transport
Commute to K-town: 1hr $12gas,$5 tolls x 2-3 times a week. 136-200/mo
Ballpark Rent & Utils: 800
Parking Spot: 0/mo??
Bottomline Cost: ~$1000 with still about 40mins at worst commute for me, and a still a lot of pain for the GF 2-3x a week.

Maybe these rental numbers for surrounding areas can be adjusted a little bit..... But at the moment, it seems like it makes the most sense to find a place in the city.
