performance driving school in the area?
I was wondering if there was any performance driving school in the PA/NJ/MD area where one can take a weekend of instruction / learn limits of the car safely.

I am pretty sure you can join NASA for $35. and go to their events which are all over the place.
Go to www.nasaproracing.com to see.
or closer to you... http://www.nasanortheast.net/ check out the schedule... there are some events at Pocono.
if that doesn't work for you, try www.summitpointraceway.com they have Friday at the Track.....it is about 4 hours from NYC though...or 1.5 hours from Harrisburg, PA.
If that doesnt work look up Carguys (can probably find it on the Autoweek website) and they lots of 2 day weekends up and down the east coast.
Hope that helped alittle.

I have been to 4 Friday at the Track events at Summit point...... instruction is usually minimal at best... they are basically there to keep you from killing yourself or anyone else....
Carguys - much more safety oriented.... usually 2 day events... I went to 1 weekend event and 1 saturday event with them.... instructors are more focused and have racing experience (generally). They will be more apt to show you the correct line, hand positions, braking points, etc......
NASA - HPDE's.... i only went to one, but I put myself in HPDE3 so I was basically there for track time..... I do not know if HPDE1 or HPDE2 instruction is good or not... I would imagine it is.
Your first time at the track will be an eye opener.... you will most likely have tunnel vision, turn in too soon, and basically drive about 10 seconds slower per lap than your car is capable of....still fun though!!!!
At this point, I have been to 4 friday at the tracks, 3 carguys days, 3 NASA days and I am allowed to drive as fast a I chose, and require no instructor to get me on the track. I have spun off 1 time due to misshifting (my fault for sure), and overcooked 2 brake zones and took the service road one time and the edge of the grass another.....
goodluck.
