If you can get to www.logmein.com you can just do all your surfing on your home computer while you're at work.

Your company is smart. They pay you and the Internet bill. They need to get their money worth. Theirs hundreds of people not working that would love your job and and not say a word about online access.

there are sites that will forward you, you can use them like a browser. I used to use this in high school to play games on the PCs there. It has been many years since high school though, so I don't know any names, but if you look around I'm sure you could find a proxy site.

I work in the finance office for a municipality, and am the de facto human resource manager. We currently do not have any website blocking programs. I do want one but I really only want to monitor usage; were the usage to get out of control I would block sites or limit access. I have employees that spend more than what I would consider a fair amount of time on the internet (2 out of 7 hours), and in some cases would like the ability to curb the lost productivity. I could hire more efficient workers, but with how little we pay it would be hard to do it cheaper even when taking the lost time into account.
Reducing internet usage to zero isn't worth the effort because the flip side of the coin is now the time spent by employees trying to get around your new security measures. You also don't help moral, for some a quick perusal of their frequented sites is like a smoke break. Taking away "the quick peek" is like taking away smoke breaks, some need the momentary escape. If you have enough free time where you can be surfing for hours though than be glad to have a job.
In these trying times I wouldn't make a big stink about it. There are too many people looking for jobs. The more easily replaced you can be the less you should be rocking the boat.
