Default How many of you are driving in the snow?

I've never had a winter "beater" (just beaters) so I've always driven the same car all year round. I have SP5000 tires on it for winter and I can get around OK as long as the roads are plowed and I drive cautiously.

Maybe someday I'll get a cheap 4x4 or something (more to haul lumber and amps in than to park my S for 4 months) but to this day, I've had no big problems getting from A to B in my S.

Until then, I'll continue to be amused as I pass all the SUV's and winter beaters who are wrecked on the side of the road because the thought they were invincible. Maybe if they were driving a rear wheel drive sports car, they'd have been more careful.

Drive it everyday, snow or no snow. Blizzaks make day and night difference but I dont like the crap (salt) from the road getting on it and may look into a good used "winter ride" in the future.

I tried once with my SO2's. There was less than an inch on the ground. I rolled forward about 10 ft and my tread filled with snow. The car stopped moving. I had it in 1st with the clutch completley out and I was not gasing it. I opened my door and looked at my rears wich was just spinning in place.

Blizzaks rule . 100K+ miles on The Bruised Banana down here. Ran her in the snow all week. Yeah, there's more "white stuff" (road salt, okay!?!) than Spa on 'er right now ...but she's a car . Granted, *normally* a damned-great lookin' car...but still a car all the same . Dropped as low as it is, my only problem is with parking lots that aren't cleared . Otherwise, with Blizzaks on my stockers (swap my wheels when bad weather seems a sure-bet) and mounted on the S...no worries what-so-ever.

I was driving my 68 coupe deville (which is the best car ever in the snow) until I broke a hole in the tailshaft on a speedbump on sunday. Now im stuck driving the S with S02's for my 70 mile round trip commute to work. It hasnt been fun. Monday was simply impossible.

xxx, I have to disagree, my '68 Eldorado was better. I do agree however that the S02's are unacceptable in the snow and I wouldn't be driving it now with those on. A good set of snow capable tires though and it's like driving any other RWD car, not as good as FWD but cheaper than buying and insuring a whole other car.

The salt and road crud is my only gripe. I hate having to wait for an above freezing day to wash it off.

same here, I hate my winter beater but not having to clean the salt off my S in the spring will be worth it
