yo, just plead to the judge that you would never do it again, and just try the futility angle, it might work. Just be like you never speed and that u never have and its been four years since your last. Just make up some shit and smooth talk your way out....u can do it man.....

Listen to HeyitsGary's advice, I did the same thing 18 mos ago and about to do it again this month, talk to the prosecuter, they take the points away and you may have to pay an extra fine.

Go to court, plead inocent, get an attorney. I have gotten over 5 or 6 speeding violations in PA gone to court and all of them and they have been reduced to something else I had to pay the fine but no points and nothing on my record. The last time I got caught passing a school bus while it had the stop sign up (I didn't see the bus) this violation in PA automatically suspends your license for 6 months I told the judge that I wasn't from the area and that I was unaware that school buses dropped children in the area and that I did not see the bus and the judged nailed me for something minor, no points and nothing in my record just the fine. Good luck.

FYI
You don't need a lawyer to handle every traffic violation.
Just plead not guilty , go to court early , speak to the prosecutor and politely tell him or her you would like to plead guilty to a lesser no points violation.
If that fails, which it never has for me, then you can ask to reschedule and come back with a lawyer.
Believe me , I have had more than 36 points at one time and once I learned that I could do the same thing as a lawyer I hired but for free I never hired lawyers ever again.
Its true that cops prey on sports cars vs Minivans or station wagons.
All you can do is be polite and kill them with kindness.
In the end you get to exist with no points on your license.
We all know what that is worth in NJ . $$$$$$$
