lawyers prices varry...i would venture to say about 400$ though.

if this was me, i would make sure the lawyer is with me for the initial talking with the prosecutor. this way they know your serious, and maybe they will just end it after that.
Guedo is correct on the ball park, (I know from other's experiences), where in NJ did it occur, what town?

Hopewell township. I was making a right turn on 29 north into the Golden Nugget Flea Market.

one of the quotes from the police report was "V1 stated that he was travelling north on highway 29 and did not see v2 stopped in traffic until the last second..." So I assume he can not now claim that I slammed my brakes on in front of him causing him to crash (if thats his case)

The officer does not have to "issue" a citation to you at the scene. It is legal to "file" or mail a citation on "information received" Sometimes they even check a box on the citation that says "filed on info received." It sucks to get a citation in the mail. Just request a hearing and ask the officer to cut you a break or just change the citation to something that doesn't carry points.

How much do you think a lawyer would cost? I assume I try to find one in NJ as close to the court as possible so I don't have to have them drive 2 hours to get there?

Do you think I need a lawyer for the initial discussion with the prosecutor or just if it goes to trial after than?
jersey sucks with tickets belive me i have gotten the most tickets ever here.
when you get a lawyer make sure that he/she is NJ Bar

I work in Wilmington and travel 52, 141, 48 every day. I see a chick in a Suzuka coming towards me on 52 quite often! Always waves! Other than that I hardly seen anyone. Never drive on 202.
