I am gonna follow up on the people and the links! Thanks everyone for chiming in.

Paulie.. FYI, I will still be at LWG! I haven't decided about this yet though so nothing is set in stone... I just need practicality! I love my S but I feel more and more limited. It would be a bit of a headache parting out a lot of the stuff and returning it to stock before I sold her!

i had an 03 Evo VIII for 2.5 years.... great car. I ran 13.4@102mph at the drag strip and I even lifted between shifts...... I beat all of the Porsche losers at AutoX and I also ran 1:08.2 at Beavrun 100% stock on a day when the best Honda Challenge full race car ran 1:05.X

I hauled kids, drove through snow, etc.... Evo's are great cars. i am sure I will own another one again....

How does the car shift? I love the gates and the short throws with my S.
A friend of mine has a G35 and the shifting is really REALLY clunky!

those cars definitely rip dude....but make sure you get a new one with a warranty....the thing to watch with mitsu's is the warranty. even if you jsut put just an intake on them your factory warranty is null and void.
where did you hear that? Lancaster Mitsu was great with me. my car at some point was lowered and even had a reflash of the ECU and they gave me no grief about anything.

I think it depends on the dealer, plus you can fight it..... the Attorney General would straighten out any dealer who claims an exhaust or intake would void the warranty.....

I'm actually planning on getting an Evo very soon too. I want a 2006 Evo IX SE in Silver as soon as they hit the local dealers. York Mitsubishi got some of the new SEs in yesterday. So other local dealers should have them this weekend.

what is SE? Special Edition? you want the 6 speed in the MR!!!!!!

The 5 speeds have a HUGE (I MEAN HUGE) gap between 4th and 5th gear..... .it is like going from 4th to 6th in the S2000.

the MR 6speed doesn't have the HUGE gap.

The SE model just hit dealers last week. It is an IX model (5spd) PLUS:
-The Aluminum roof from the RS and MR models
-HID headlamps and integrated fogs
-New front under spolier
-The forged BBS wheels from the MR in a different finish
-Red stitching on the front and rear seats
-SE badge on trunk

SE package on an IX is +$1850 on the MSRP

OR you can also now get the MR model (6spd) with a $500 SE appearance package which includes the seat stitching, the new front lip and the new wheel finish.

I was 99% sure I was going to go with the regular SE model because based on what I have read, I WANT the 5 spd transmission. I have heard horror stories about the 4th gear on the Aisin-built 6 spd tranny exploding. Apparently the 6 spd trannys have heat-related problems when they see extended use, like at a track day. The 5 spd Mitsubishi transmissions appear to be superior from a reliability standpoint to the Aisin 6 spd. And the 1 through 4 gears on both transmission options are essentially identical.

I've never driven an Evo. But I really don't think I'd have an issue with a huge gap between 4th gear and 5th gear on the 5 speed tranny. I mean how often will I really have a need or even an opportunity to accelerate beyond 100mph??

i've heard that from other evo owners...i would hope the dealer is the case because i've only heard bad experiences about the them...

the track.

at summit, my Evo would only reach 125 down the front straight (vs about 130 for the S2000), but my lap times were definately faster in the Evo vs a stock S2000.

i think it depends on a few things.... how you present yourself, how you present the car, etc......

I am 37, normal looking cracker...... I don't have 20 piercings and 20 tatoos' and don't wear my hat crooked like a wigger......

My cars are almost always ding free, clean, etc......

I can see the dealer just assumign the worst when a 17 year old in his hoodie, baggies pants and nose ring asks for warranty work in his Evo which has A-pillar guages and a Fire extinguisher on the passenger side A-pillar...

I have never been denied any warranty coverage for any car....I lower and put exhaust and intake on almost every car.....

The evo board is filled with idiots who can't seem to drive or abuse the hell out of their cars and want free warranty work.....
