Wow
Just got back from a track day yesterday and I still can't wipe the smile off my face. Those of you that have had track time will no doubt know what I mean, those who haven't I would highly recommend it.
I was apprehensive at first and started with a high 1:52 but with some great lessons, and a few hot laps with the instructor driving I ended the day with a 1:47 flat and felt that their is still plenty of room for improvement.
I've had problems with the software for my digital camera so it might take a while to get the pics up but when I do I'll post them for you guys.

We had them out here once about 10 years back, not enough population to support it attendance wise though. Oval racing isn't very popular here, our AUSCAR racing has about 5 or 6 competitors and they now mostly race at tracks where they only fill in time between the major attraction which is the V8 supercars.

I still can't stop talking about it.
The only thing we needed was a helmet and a car that would be safe enough. (brakes, tyres, etc.) We had a half hour theory lesson and then a walk around the track with the instuctors (21 cars/people and 6 instructors) then a few timed hot laps and then we drove with the instructor and he would drive a few laps to give you an idea of what we should be doing. The rest of the day was spent going in and out for 5 or so laps at a time trying to better our times.
I still look like this.

Unfortunately I'll be paying for it with the amount of work I have to catch up on.
Seriously if you ever get the chance go for it. They had a modified Lotus Elise that pulled a 1:36 That's about 10-12 seconds faster than most of the S2000's. The other Elise's ran between 1:45-48 depending on the tires.
BTW Charlie, I just realized what you meant, it was actually INDYCAR but no it won't be until late October. Sorry about that, I think my mind is still at the racetrack!

There was a racing school in the UK that was using S2000's for a while, I was very keen on signing up for a day there on one of my trips back, so that I could abuse someone esles car , but unfortunately they have stopped using the S2000 now

They have a school here which uses small open top cars which I would love to do. They don't carry much top speed but their crazy through the corners.
I think I'll have to sign up the next time they run it.

Peter, I'm glad you got to go, it is one of the most fun things in the world, isn't it? It's like a real-life amusement park combined with the best Playstation game in the world (I guess, I have never been much good at video games).
I can't wait to go again, but my next chance won't be until November or December. The July, August, and September track days here in SoCal all collided with *@#! other obligations. They all involve(d) vacation travel, though, so I should stop whining.
