Billy, a mil invested won't let you retire in style (well, maybe in Ft. Wayne it would, but not in the real world). Good point on the supplemental income, though...

Now 2.5 mil or more could probably do it. :dreams wistfully:

If it's "just" a mil, spend it on your vices!

It wouldn't let you retire in style in Fort Fun, either, even though style here is rather skewed. That doesn't change the fact that being given a million dollars would still be a pretty darn nice thing. Can you live like a king off it? Maybe for a couple years. But you could definately change a lot of things in your life - work part time doing something you really enjoy without sacrificing your existing financial lifestyle, for example.

I just take exception to people saying a million dollars doesn't go very far, because it does... even in the real world

edit: I also take exception to my inability to spell

If I had a million Dollars I would change it into sterling first off

Now with the 640,000 pounds, I would spend about 400,000 on a house, pay off all of my debts (the whole of the 500 pounds that I have on my credut card this month ) probably spend between 50 & 100,000 on cars, and put the rest into investments for a rainy day. If you have your house and cars and everything paid for already it is amazing how much further your pay check goes each month ......
