This will probably be another of my thread killer posts, but here goes anyway. I think what women really want from men is security. I think that looks are secondary to what women see as his potential as a provider and thereby protector of the "nest". It's Darwinian. It's primevil. It's instinctual and buried in the primitive brain through eons of natural selection. Primitive women who chose dufuses didn't survive to bear offspring. Of course the person has to be a nice, considerate and interesting person which is an indicator of someone with class and intelligence. But if he ever loses his temper, rambles on about himself, bumbles and is awkward which are all signs of weakness, she quickly loses interest. All guys do is present themselves to hundreds of women and they make the final decision. Just like picking the best apple off the tree. It's not the apple's decision. Just my $0.02.

littleton, I have to agree with you, especially when it comes to women that either have or want families. My last girlfriend was previously married. She was gorgeous. Her ex-husband was not. He wasn't nearly as ambitious as she was, either. Why did she marry him? Because she knew he would never leave her and thought he would be a good father to their son. He wasn't...she left him.

I think that what women really want is very finely varied. There are basic things that both men and women look for..but within those categories are vast spectrums. Example. I know that I look for it...and most people I know look for it....humor. Everyone wouldn't mind having their significant other having that special way of getting you to smile when it's the last thing you thought you'd do that day...but "a sense of humor" is different for everybody, isn't it...all the way from dark and cynical to circus clown.
Now if you're talking about general categories? Humor is one (Laughter is a gift ). Intelligence, another....I think women want someone who listens and truly cares about what they believe, think, and feel....and REMEMBER it later. (Pay attention fellas)......and they are not all gushy categories either...I think security can be a really big issue....but like I said..the proportions for any of these categories put together is different from woman to woman.
