That's weird Mike. Both you and J have awesome download speeds, but horrible upload.

Yeah...I have never seen any so high. When I first got ours installed they had registered us to the wrong switching station. I did a speed test and was like WTF. So I called them and got it sorted out. We have great speeds now...no complaints. I think at one point my roommates even had 4 PS2s all going out playing online at the same time.

That's typical of low-cost broadband. They frequently cap the UL (either by software or by funneling all UL traffic through a low bandwidth connection) to discourage users from running web/FTP/game servers from their home connections. Some even cap single connections on the DL path.

A sustained connection to my FTP will cap at 256 kbps; but multiple periodic connections can achieve upwards of 800 kbps. The former is a software cap, the latter is a funnel issue.

Comcast sent an email yesterday saying more pipe has been opened just disconnect your cable modem for 60 seconds and whamo more bandwidth!!!

The difference is extremely noticeable!

Here i the fine print from the email ( I guess I should make it small)

Comcast High-Speed Internet downstream speed is limited to 3Mbps, upstream speed is limited to 256Kbps. Actual speeds vary and are not guaranteed. Many factors affect download speed. Comcast reserves the right to change the speed. Comcast High-Speed Internet Pro download speeds will increase to 4Mbps/384Kbps. Comcast Home Networking customer's downstream speeds will increase to 4Mbps; upstream speeds will increase to 384Kbps, formerly 2.5Mbps/256Kbps.

Yeah...with any line you have a CIR data rate which is garunteed bandwidth and a burst rate which it what you are describing Billy.

As evidenced by my old school cable connection - there's no such thing as guaranteed bandwidth!

I think we are getting a "pro" feed here at work! Only way I can justify the high d/l speed dont tell them!

You may be paying for a business connection which is usually better (and more expensive)?

Comcast's system is pretty messed up... I've gotten calls seeing if I wanted to get their high speed internet - even though I'm already a customer.
