DSL sucks (IMO)....I had it twice in two different locations and it sucked both times...way more down time than Cable.....and the PPOE software Verizon gives you is total crap

I don't think the technology sucks, but definitely the application by whatever company you have can be spotty. I've been really happy with earthlink, I've only had two problems, one time the line got jacked and they sent a guy and fixed it right away, and the other time the modem fried and they sent me a replacement right away. I've heard a lot of horror stories, but so far my setup has rocked out from day 1 I can't get cable where I'm at, I looked into it.

and now for a dig against mac: using windows xp, I can set up the port directly through the OS, so I don't have to run any software to connect, I just run through my network

I had my SBC/Yahoo dial/up dsl migration issue, but that's about it... 10 months.. maybe 2 hours of downtime... 2 computers are always online..24/7..never had a problem.

this weekend, i'm going to set up the wireless router now that I know that the Mac has a wireless card built in.

That's really strange. I wouldn't expect things to work at all if the local switching station didn't know about your modem. But, cool... Good luck.

No..they work. Your network packet will still get around...it just won't take the optimal path.

Sounds like this is what may have happened when I went to use an old DSL modem down the shore this summer at our rental place.......of course Verizon tech support was clueless ......and I DID tell them this I was using a DSL modem from an old account

Next time I am just calling Iuke!
